Common questions
- How much does eBay take?
- For most categories the final value fee is around 13.25% of the total amount of the sale, plus a fixed fee per order. Some categories are lower — musical instruments and electronics among them — and some higher.
- Is the fee charged on postage?
- Yes. The final value fee applies to the total the buyer pays, which includes postage and any handling charge. Free postage does not avoid it — it just moves the cost into the item price.
- What other fees are there?
- Insertion fees once you exceed your monthly free listings, optional listing upgrades, an international fee on cross-border sales, and a currency conversion charge if you are paid in another currency. Those are not included above.
- Are eBay fees tax deductible?
- In most places selling fees are a legitimate business expense and come off your taxable profit. Keep the statements — and an invoice for each sale, which is what our generator is for.
