What net 45 means
| Payment term | Net 45 |
|---|---|
| Calendar days | 45 |
| Roughly | 6.4 weeks |
Net 45 means the full invoice amount is due 45 calendar days after the invoice date — not 45 working days, and not 45 days from when the work was delivered. If you need paid sooner, a shorter term is a negotiation, not a request.
A worked example
An invoice dated 15 January on net 30 terms falls due on 14 February. On net 60 it would be 16 March, and the extra month is the difference between a healthy cash position and a nervous one.
| Invoice date | 15 January |
|---|---|
| Net 30 due | 14 February |
| Net 60 due | 16 March |
Some contracts say "net 30 EOM", meaning thirty days from the end of the month the invoice was issued in — a different and later date.
Common questions
- What does net 30 mean?
- Payment in full is due thirty calendar days after the invoice date. It is the most common business-to-business term in English-speaking markets.
- Is net 30 counted in business days?
- No — calendar days, including weekends and holidays. If the due date lands on a weekend, most suppliers accept payment on the next working day, but the contract governs.
- What does 2/10 net 30 mean?
- A 2% discount if the invoice is paid within ten days, otherwise the full amount at thirty. It is an early-payment incentive, and at those numbers it is an expensive one to offer.
- Can I charge interest on a late payment?
- Usually yes. UK law allows statutory interest plus a fixed recovery charge on late commercial debts, and the EU Late Payment Directive does much the same. Put your terms on the invoice first — our generator has a field for them.
